For years, I’ve been watching my thoughts, treating my mind like a stage where words perform their daily show. This practice has changed me, but I’m still amazed by how sneaky words can be in shaping how I feel and act.

The other day, a thought caught me off guard. Despite years of “guarding the gates” of my mind, this uninvited idea slipped past my mental bouncer and took the spotlight. It was a wake-up call that being mindful isn’t a finish line we cross but a path we keep walking.

This got me thinking about how we relate to our inner voice. It’s not about having perfect control – that’s just not possible. Instead, it’s about learning the subtle ways words paint our reality, even when we think we’ve got this self-talk thing figured out.

Think about it: How often do we really look at the hidden meanings in the words we use in our heads?

A thought like “I should do better” might seem fine, maybe even motivating. But that little “should” carries a weight that can slowly chip away at how we see ourselves and what we do.

I’ve started to think of my inner monologue as a fancy AI. It’s learned from years of input – everything we’ve experienced, believed, and said over and over. Like any AI, it can come up with some brilliant stuff, but it can also spit out nonsense that doesn’t help us.

The trick, I’ve found, isn’t to be on high alert all the time – that’s tiring and, let’s face it, impossible. Instead, it’s about nurturing a gentle awareness, a friendly curiosity towards our thoughts.

When we notice a thought that doesn’t fit our desires, we can look at it with interest rather than beat ourselves up. “Oh, there’s that old pattern again. Interesting.”

This week, I challenge you to look at your inner monologue like a word detective with a heart of gold. Notice the words that pop up in your mental space a lot.

Any surprises? Any you’d like to tweak a bit?

Remember, we’re not aiming for perfection here. We’re aiming for presence.

And in that presence, we find the power to shift our internal story, one word at a time.

Until next time,

The Ripple Effect of Our Words

We must believe in the power and strength of our words. Our words can change the world.

~ Malala Yousafzai

The words we use shape our reality in profound ways. Whether spoken aloud or thought silently, each word influences how we feel, act, and show up in the world. They affect not just our thoughts but our entire experience of life.

When we choose our words with intention, we create meaningful change. A simple shift in vocabulary can transform our mood, boost our confidence, and open new possibilities.

This week, pay attention to the words you use most often. Notice how they make you feel and what actions they inspire. Choose words that energize and empower you. Words that align with who you want to become.

Remember: Your words create your world. Choose them wisely.

Alice & Olivia Wide-Leg Jeans

I absolutely love these jeans from Alice & Olivia – they feel vintage in the best possible way. What drew me to them instantly was their high-rise and incredibly chic fit that makes such a powerful style statement.

I adore how the wide-leg silhouette creates presence without saying a word, and the exaggerated hem adds that perfect touch of drama I look for in my wardrobe essentials.

They’re more than just jeans; they’re an expression of confidence. Whenever I put them on, I feel like I’m stepping into my power.
