When someone asks about my holiday plans, I have a simple answer: “Less doing, more being.”
My heart is craving what I call “Elevated Simplicity” - where the power of less is used for the pursuit of excellence.
It’s refined living at its best. Think about a well-made espresso served in a white ceramic cup - no garnish, just perfect execution. That’s Elevated Simplicity.
And it’s what I’m craving this holiday. No to endless parties, Christmas cards to people I haven’t seen in years, excess gift giving, and decorations galore.
I want to follow my KISS principle: Keep It Stylishly Simple.
My playbook? Three rules:
- Choose experiences over excess
- Create beauty through simplicity
- Leave room for spontaneous joy
Instead of elaborate tablescapes, I’m setting simple white candles in crystal holders.
Rather than countless parties, I’m hosting an intimate gathering with my closest friends.
Instead of a mountain of gifts, I’m choosing one thoughtful present (Except for the kiddos, who get three).
And those perfectly wrapped presents? Beautiful kraft paper with fresh evergreen sprigs.
Because here’s what I’ve learned: Style isn’t about having more or doing more – it’s about choosing better.
This season, I invite you to join me in embracing Elevated Simplicity.
Let’s make this holiday season about presence over presents, quality over quantity, and ease over excess.
Until next time, keep it stylishly simple,
P.S. Speaking of simplicity, check out today’s In the Bag feature – this book has transformed how I approach everything from my celebrations to my closet to my calendar.
When Less Truly Becomes More
The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.
~ Hans Hoffman
True elegance emerges in the spaces “between” – in the thoughtful pause, the carefully chosen word, the mindful edit. When we strip away the excess, we reveal the extraordinary in the essential.
Before adding anything new this week, ask yourself: “What can I elegantly eliminate?” Notice how each conscious reduction creates space for what truly matters to shine.
Remember: Sophistication isn’t found in abundance but in artful curation.
Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less
Do you ever have those days when you’re stretched impossibly thin, running from one commitment to the next, feeling productive but somehow still falling behind?
If this sounds all too familiar and is more of the norm than the exception, you must check out Greg McKeown’s Essentialism.
This isn’t just another productivity book – it’s an elegant framework for choosing what truly matters. Think of it as Marie Kondo meets time management but with a sophisticated twist.
The message is simple but powerful: do less but better. It’s about making the highest possible contribution to the things that really matter in your life.
Trust me, this one’s a game-changer.
