You know what’s fascinating about New Year’s resolutions? For years, I approached them with a “fixing” mindset, like I was some kind of human repair shop.
Fix my body. Fix my bank account. Fix my business.
Fix, fix, fix...
And underneath all that fixing was an even more insidious belief: something was wrong with me.
After all, if all these areas of my life needed repair, surely I was the common denominator, right?
Wrong.
Here’s what I finally understood: the very idea of “fixing” implies that something’s broken.
When we see ourselves as broken, we create this exhausting cycle – taking action after action but never addressing the real issue: our fundamental view of ourselves as problems to be solved.
Then, I had this breakthrough. What if, instead of being the broken thing that needs fixing, I was the designer of my life?
Everything changed.
You see, designers don’t view their projects as problems to be fixed. They approach their work with the lens of possibility and curated choices.
They ask questions like: What do I want to create? What elements would make this beautiful? How can I arrange things to serve the overall vision?
In this week’s podcast, I share how this shift from “fixer” to “designer” has completely transformed how I approach not just the new year but every single day.
Because when you stop trying to fix yourself and start designing your life instead, you unlock a whole new level of creativity and possibility.
Here’s to designing your next chapter,
When Life Becomes Design
Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn.
~ Gore Vidal
There’s a profound difference between approaching life as a series of problems and seeing it as a canvas for design.
Designers don’t walk into a room thinking about what’s wrong – they envision what’s possible. They understand that every element is a deliberate choice that shapes the overall experience.
This week, try shifting your perspective from problem-solver to life designer. “What needs to be fixed?” becomes “What do I want to create?”
