The Edit #218

I came across this woman’s story the other day and immediately thought, “Okay, I love her.”

Her name was Ruth Flowers, and she was 69 when she went to a nightclub in London with her grandson. Apparently, the bouncers looked at her like, ma’am… are you sure?

Apparently, she was.

She stood in line for a club with a bunch of twenty-somethings, and guess what? Ruth had the best time. She loved the music, the energy, the whole scene.

She watched the DJ and instead of thinking, Well, that was fun. Back to my regularly scheduled life, she had a completely different thought:

I could do that.

And she did.

She learned how to DJ, became known as Mamy Rock, and eventually played clubs all over Europe.

Silver hair. Red lipstick. Giant sunglasses. Rhinestone headphones. The whole thing.

At almost 70.

Here’s what we can learn from Ruth: notice what makes you perk up.

The places, people, ideas, clothes, hobbies, trips, rooms, conversations – whatever makes you think, Ooh. I want some of that.

And then spend more time fighting for why it’s possible than why it’s not.

That doesn’t mean every little spark needs to become a new career or a dramatic reinvention. But I do think those sparks are worth paying attention to.

They’re often clues. Little hints about what excites you, what wakes you up, what makes you feel more alive.

And I don’t know about you, but I want to follow more of those.

Because at the end of the day, your life is a reflection of what you fought the hardest for.

Don’t let it be your limitations.

With love,

The Thought Edit

Am I fighting for what’s possible in my life or explaining why it isn’t?

The answer reveals more than I sometimes want to admit. Where I put my energy directly impacts where my life goes.

The Feature

Juliska Puro Tortoiseshell Martini Glass

I love a brand that understands that the good stuff happens around a table. Juliska’s whole philosophy is about love and the art of knowing how to live well.

This Puro Tortoiseshell Martini Glass reflects exactly that. Beautiful enough to make any evening feel like an occasion, relaxed enough to actually use.

Follow the Fun [From the Archives]

Ruth Flowers didn’t plan to become Mamy Rock. She just followed a spark.

This episode from the vault is about doing just that – using fun as a compass instead of a reward. What lights you up isn’t frivolous. It’s actually one of the most reliable guides you have.
